The first thing you want to do when choosing new hardware for your kitchen is decide whether you would like to use knobs, pulls, or a mixture of both. If you already have knobs it is not that hard to add one more hole and put a pull on instead. If you are switching to pulls, and you have some picked out, make sure that you measure how far apart the holes are on your desired pull before you drill a second hole!

Next, you're going to want to pick a finish. There are so many finishes to choose from these days from brass, to black and everything in between. There are even leather pulls if you like the look of them! If you are wanting this to feel like a drastic change, picking something that is a different shade from what you currently have can help accomplish this. For example, this photo. They went for a drastic change in color on their hardware, and the room looks more modern and crisp after they added the black knobs and pulls. It changes the feel of the room more than you would think!
